"If you want your child to be honest, be vulnerable with them." The Peaceful Parent Project
When your child misbehaves, don't REACT, instead RESPOND - The Peaceful Parent Project
R = Rush to Judgement
E = Explode
A = Aggressively Behave
C = Catrostophize
T = Taunt
R=Reflect
E=Empathize
S=Soothe/Provide Silence
P=Preserve the relationship
O=Be Open
N=No
D=Redirect
Reflect - before you address your child reflect on what you bring to the table.
Empathize - Although your child's behaviour may be inappropriate, the emotions driving it are real
Providing soothing comfort or your silent presence reassures your child you are their safe place
If you cannot control your own emotions, now is not the time to address your child's behaviour.
Be open to hearing what happened from your child's perspective
Once your child is calm, help them make amends and make a plan to prevent behavior the next time
